Camera shots on film

The film I have decided to analyse is the walking dead season 1 episode one because it has a lot of subjects to analyse. Firstly, the camera shots used a lot in the walking dead are a lot of mid shot to show the environment and where he is which is in the hospital. This is good because it introduces the audience to the film and it gives the audience information about what’s going on. Another shot they use in the film is close up, they use this to mainly show the viewers the characters expression or emotions on his face which sometimes increases tension in the movie. Over the shoulder, the shot has been used to show conversations with the other character and it can also show that they only want the viewers to concentration on only these two characters. On the first few seconds of the walking, dead use [xls] shot to show the surroundings and where the film/episode starts off. The connotation to this shot, or what it does is that it feeds the audience the atmosphere of where the character is. In this shot, he uses diegetic sound and what you can hear is insects screeching.
On the 3.55 minute, the camera shot is [bcu] and this is because they wanted the audience to see what a zombie looks like and also it can show the emotions left on the girl's face [which is a zombie].

In this scene, there are also match on action shots which show an action in two or more shots. This kind of shots has to be fluent and well done in order to make sense and appear interesting. The example in this scene is when Rick Grimes shoots the zombie girl. In this bit, you can see the struggle from where he is trying to shoot the girl because the camera zooms in on his face and you can tell he doesn't want to do it. from when the bullet makes contact to the girls head she falls back and the camera flips to show her laying down on the floor. These few shots let the audience to keep track of whats going on and also it keeps the audience dramatically interested as they watch the correct steps of the action very clearly. Although these two shots happen very quickly, it emphasises the speed and shock factor of the action, which keeps the viewers intrigued and alert. this scene also has reaction shots after the man shoots the girl to show his reaction.
Sound

The sound which is used depends on where the camera shot is for example if the camera shot is close the music will be an intensity of the climax. In contrast to this in the walking dead when they use a close up shot towards the face of the character the sound is non-diegetic because it is edited from the producers, you can tell this just from the time the film was based on or the volume of the sound and if the characters from the film interact with the sound or pretend it not there. In the walking dead, there isn’t much diegetic sound except the props and dialogue because the film was based on them having a lot of stuff till everything is gone because of the illness that spreader that’s killing everyone.

Editing

The editing used in the walking dead are mainly used through the zombies when they are running it looks like they have a lot of stamina and they make it more interesting and believable because it looks like they are subhuman/not human.
